This carbine was a conversion of a Sharps civil war percussion carbine. The conversion took place in 1868. It has the three-grooved lined barrel that was common with the conversions at the time. It has a tight action and good bore. Most markings are gone and very little finish remains. When it was converted, the stock was replaced with a plain stock. The Western and aviation artist, Jerry Crandall, purchased this carbine from noted Montana collector, John Fox.
This carbine saw use in both the Civil War and Indian Wars, before being sold into civilian service. This carbine comes with a Jerry Crandall print and a signed letter of authenticity from Judy Crandall.
